Special Key Sequences

Remote Control passes special key sequences to the supported version of Windows running on the host and lets each version of Windows interpret what each special key means. This special key functionality serves as a shortcut for entering key sequences that would not usually be transmitted to the host because they would by trapped by Windows on the viewer computer for its own functions.

Note: Not all key sequences are necessarily interpreted by the Windows operating system itself. An application can also grab them if they are defined as “hot keys.”

The following table summarizes special key functionality. Unless specified otherwise, the functionality is the same for all versions of Windows.

Key

Toolbar Button

Note: On most systems, using Ctrl + Space will clear and reselect an item, for example, My Computer, on the desktop. However, on Far Eastern language versions of Windows, for example, Simplified Chinese, this key sequence switches between the different entry modes of the Input Method Editor.

Ctrl + Alt + Del

Send Ctrl-Alt-Delete button

Uses the Windows Security dialog to do the following:

  • Log on to the remote host, using its logon sequence.
  • Log on and use the host's Task Manager.

Note: You may now create a hot key that simulates Ctrl+Alt+Del, for example, Ctrl-Alt-Insert. For detailed information, see the Configure the Viewer Display and Control Options help topic.

Note: On some European keyboards, the right-hand Alt key is labeled "Alt Gr" and is used to output additional European characters. For example, on a UK keyboard, Alt Gr+4 prints a Euro currency symbol. If the Redirect Extended keys option is enabled, the Alt Gr key functions like a normal left Alt key. To use the functionality of the Alt Gr key, press Ctrl+Alt.
