Add a Domain Category

Domain categories are created from the Service Domain page. They are added only after creating the service domain for which the domain category is to be defined.

To add a domain category

  1. In the Service Domains page, click Edit button next to the service domain to which you want to add a domain category.

    The Service Domain page opens.

  2. Click Add Domain Category.

    The Domain Category page opens.

  3. In Name, enter the name of the domain category.
  4. In Description, enter a description for the domain category.
  5. From the Default service level target is drop-down list, select whether the provided service level should be no more than the target (A maximum limit) or no less than the target (A minimum limit).

Note: Use Minimal limit to define measurements that should be above the target such as "Service Availability should be no less that 99%". Use Maximum limit to define measurements that should be below the target such as "Mean Time to Repair should be no more than 6 hours".

  6. In Report precision, enter or use the arrows to select the number of decimal places with which the service level should be displayed in reports.
  7. From the Default unit of Measurement drop-down list, select a unit of measurement for all the metrics defined for this domain category. If the unit you need is not available, you can add it from the Add Unit link. For more information, see Adding a Unit.
  8. [Optional]. In Minimal service level target, enter the minimum value that can be set for the service-level target, according to the unit of measurement selected.
  9. [Optional]. In Maximal service level target, enter the maximum value that can be set for the service-level target, according to the unit of measurement selected.

Minimal service level target and Maximal service level target place limits on the service-level targets that can be defined in contracts, based on your business requirements.

  10. Select the Prediction metric check box to have the calculation engine create best-case and worst-case scenarios for this domain category for use in prediction alerts and Dashboard thresholds. Predictions are based on the actual results for the tracking period up until the date when the calculation is run, and the prediction values selected here. The Prediction metric drop-down list is enabled.
  11. From the Prediction metric drop-down list, select the function to be applied to the best-case and worst-case data values:
  12. In Optimistic value and Pessimistic value, enter or use the arrows to select best-case and worst-case values. These values can be used in the calculation of certain alerts, such as Predicted Penalty and Predicted Service Level alerts, and for Dashboard thresholds. For more information, see Alert Profiles and Dashboard.
  13. In Thresholds, define threshold values for roll-up calculations in the Dashboard. For more information, see Thresholds.
  14. Click Save.

The new domain category is added.
