Migrating a Series of Tapes to HPT (3590) Format

This method allows you to migrate an entire series of tapes from reel to HPT media, and then manually change its status from a reel to an HPT tape. This procedure can provide for a rapid migration independent of CA VM:Tape, assuming that the following conditions are met:

• You must have a migration utility that will copy all the data sets of a reel tape to a cartridge tape. The utility must preserve the tape labels, if they exist. In particular, it is vital that the volser be identical.
• The applications that use the tapes in the series must be converted to use HPT media tapes concurrently with the migration process.
• The migration must be accomplished while CA VM:Tape is shut down or the users are prevented from obtaining mounts of the tapes in the series.
