Run Rule Compliance for an ESX Server

You can create access and management profiles and schedule a recurring compliance job for an ESX server in a single operation.

To use this functionality, the following conditions must be met:

Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Explore pane.

    Available groups, services, and systems appear.

  2. Expand the VMware vCenter Server folder and right-click an ESX server.
  3. In the context menu, select Verification, Run Rule Compliance.

    The ESX 4.x Rule Compliance dialog appears.

  4. Select a CCA server, and enter the user name and password for the ESX server.
  5. (Optional) To create a scheduled compliance job, enable the Schedule action for rule compliance option.
  6. Click OK.

    The following actions are performed automatically:

    1. The selected CCA server is assigned to the ESX server.
    2. Access and management profiles are created and assigned to the ESX server.
    3. Server discovery and rule compliance are run.
    4. A scheduled action for repeated running of the compliance job is created.
  7. (Optional) On the Policy tab, you can adjust the action and its schedule.

    Note: The compliance job is run every Sunday at midnight (default).
