6.4.2 NPM Network Parameters Required for Exceptions

The NPM Network collection function has the capability to
monitor and record exceptions when specific conditions occur.
The data center can set and modify thresholds by which these
conditions are recognized using the NETCOLL command. When
exceptions are recognized by NPM, they can be recorded in the
SMF Type 28 Monitor Event Record, subtype '18'X. Monitor
Resolution Records, subtype '19'X, are produced if the
parameter XRES=YES is specified on the NETCOLL command. In
this case, only at the first interval when the threshold is
exceeded and the last interval when the resource returns to
within bounds will the exception and resolution records be
written. The resolution record contains a count of the
number of intervals since the exception and the reason for
the resolution.

CA MICS Network Analyzer processes these exception and
resolution conditions to create the Network Incident (SNTNIN)
File. Exceptions 12181 through 12209 result directly from
this data.

To set or modify the exceptions, their thresholds, the
resources for which exceptional conditions are to be
monitored, or the interval on which they are recorded, refer
to the Tivoli NPM documentation.
