6.4 Exceptions and NPM Network Parameters

The NPM Network Collection Function has the capability to
monitor and record exceptions when specific conditions occur.
The data center can set and modify thresholds by which these
conditions are recognized using the NETCOLL command.

When exceptions are recognized by NPM, they are recorded in
one of the following records:

o The SMF type 28 subtype x'18' record (monitor exception).

o The SMF type 28 subtype x'19 record (monitor resolution)
if the parameter XRES=YES is specified on the NETCOLL
   command.

In this case, the exception and resolution records are
written only at the first interval when the threshold is
exceeded and at the last interval when the resource
returns to within bounds. The resolution record contains
a count of the number of intervals since the exception and
   the reason for the resolution.

CA MICS Network Analyzer processes these exception and
resolution conditions to create the Network Incident (SNTNIN)
File. Exceptions 12181 through 12209 result directly from
this data. CA MICS exceptions are described in Chapter 4.

To set or modify the exceptions, their thresholds, the
resources for which exceptional conditions are to be
monitored, or the interval in which they are recorded, refer
to the description of the NETCOLL command in the Tivoli NPM
documentation.
