Add SysPrep Files to the OS Image Structure (Step 2)

Running SysPrep prepares a model computer for multiple deployments. Before you can prepare a golden image of the model computer using either Microsoft ImageX or Symantec Norton Ghost, you have to add the required Sysprep files to the getimage OS image.

Perform this step to capture model computers running on operating systems like Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP Professional, Windows Embedded POS, or Windows Server 2003.

Note: Skip this step for capturing model computers running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7because the Sysprep files are embedded in these operating systems.

To add Sysprep files to the OS image structure

Note: You can perform the following steps in the DSM Explorer also. See the Online help for more information.

  1. Open the OS Setup media, go to the support\tools folder, and open the deploy.cab file.
  2. Copy the following Sysprep files in the GETIMAGE structure:
  3. Copy the files to the following GETIMAGE structure, depending on the model computer's OS:
    OSIM-image store\imagename\imagename\sysprep\OS-directory\

Following is an example of a GETIMAGE structure location for Windows Server 2003:

    C:\CA\DSM\Server\SDBS\var\managedpc\images\GETIMAGE\GETIMAGE\sysprep\win-2003-sp1

Following are the predefined OS-specific directories:

Directory

Operating System

win-2003-sp1

Windows Server 2003

win-2003-x64

Windows Server 2003 x64

win-xp-sp2

Windows XP Professional

win-xp-x64

Windows XP Professional x64

Windows Embedded POS

You can now back up and prepare your model computer, and capture the image.
