Assess the Need for an Offline Subscription Proxy

Before you configure subscription, determine whether you need to designate offline subscription proxies. The need for offline subscription proxies occurs when the CA Enterprise Log Manager servers you configured as subscription clients have no access to any online subscription proxy because of policies that disallow these servers to access any server with Internet access. Your policies may even be such that no CA Enterprise Log Manager server can be an online subscription proxy. In both cases, you need an offline subscription proxy. The difference between these scenarios is how the subscription update is retrieved from the CA Subscription server; in one case, updates are retrieved on a scheduled basis by an online proxy; in the other case, updates are retrieved manually by an individual on a remote server.

This illustration shows the interaction between the subscription clients, offline proxy server, and the online proxy server.
