Subscription Update Planning

Keeping CA Enterprise Log Manager current is automated through subscription updates provided by the CA Subscription server. Subscription updates may contain any or all of the following:

• Product and operating system updates, which are self-installed by all CA Enterprise Log Manager servers.

  Note: You can choose which product and operating system updates to apply during each update cycle.

• Content and configuration updates, such as the following, which are pushed to the management server.
  • Report queries
  • Reports
  • Data mapping (DM) and message parsing (XMP) files
  • Listeners, connectors, and other services
  • Integrations
  • Configuration updates for CA Enterprise Log Manager modules
  • Public key updates
• Updates that are destined for the agents

  Note: Update your CA Enterprise Log Manager servers before you update agents. CA Enterprise Log Manager servers support agents at or below their current version number. To help ensure proper storage of collected events when you configure or update agents, verify that the agent sends events only to CA Enterprise Log Manager servers whose level is the same as the agent or higher.

The first CA Enterprise Log Manager server you install is the default, online subscription proxy for subscription updates. Subsequent CA Enterprise Log Manager servers are installed as subscription clients. If needed, you can configure any CA Enterprise Log Manager server to act as an offline subscription proxy. You can also configure additional online subscription proxies.

Subscription planning involves the following:

• Assess the need for an HTTP proxy
• Assess the need for an offline subscription proxy
• Assess the need for a proxy list
