Always Omit Folders

You can omit folders or drives from all filter processing. For example, you might want to always exclude the Windows directory from all filter processing. This ensures that files are not migrated from any specified directory even if they meet filter criteria defined for the migration.

Note: If you identify a folder to always omit, CA DMM omits this folder from all filter processing. This differs from defining an exclude filter. Exclude filters exclude the files matching the filter criteria from the migration wherever the file may have been selected. For example, you can explicitly select an .mp3 file from the tree on the Select Files and Folders page, but if you create an exclude .mp3 filter, that file will not be migrated.

Example: Always omit folder

The following sample procedure always omits the My Documents and Windows system folders from filter processing at migration.

To always omit folders from filter processing

  1. Click Filters from the Settings tree view.

The Name and Type tab appears.

  2. Click Always Omit.

The Always Omit Folders dialog appears.

  3. Click Add.

    The Omit Folder dialog appears.

  4. Type %DNA_My_Documents%, and click OK.

Note: If you are defining a template to be used on different operating systems, use environment variables when defining omitted folders for filters such as My Documents and the Windows system folders. Each operating system locates system folders in different locations.

  5. (Optional) Clear Omit all subfolders if you want to omit the root of My Documents only.

The omitted folder appears in the list of omitted folders.

  6. Click Add, use the Browse button to choose the c:\Windows folder.

The omitted folder appears in the list of omitted folders.

  7. Click OK.
