To transmit a break signal on the console line as though you were using the Break key directly on the console of the serviced system, use the HALT or BREAK command. The system record must be configured with the Halt Sequence set as “BREAK”.
Note: Not all terminal and console servers support the transmission of the break signal. If in doubt about whether your terminal or console server supports the transmission of a break signal, check the documentation provided with it.
For example, to transmit a break signal on the console line for the serviced system, SALT, enter:
Command: BREAK SALT
Do you want to halt the system? [Y/N]?
You are asked to verify that you want to halt the system.
If you do not specify a system in the command, the break signal is transmitted to the system in the currently selected area.
There is no standard character sequence required by all terminal/console servers in order to generate a break signal on their serial ports. Each vendor may have their own default sequence. The user may also modify this sequence.
Because Console Manager has a limit of eight characters for the halt sequence, you must configure the break sequence on your servers to be no more than eight characters. Choose a sequence that is unlikely to be used by any application that you execute while logged in to your system consoles. If you use the ~ (tilde) character as the starting character, you must avoid using one of the typical SSH client sequences, such as ~. (tilde-period) so that you do not terminate the SSH client application being used by Console Management.
We recommend you use the same sequence on all your terminal/console servers. Once you have chosen a sequence, use the same sequence for all systems connected to the same terminal server and that require a break in order to halt.
Note: This is an exception from other connection types such as LAT, TELNET or Direct. For those connection types, continue to enter the keyword “BREAK” when prompted for the halt sequence.
To halt a system, use the HALT or BREAK command. Console Manager will direct the terminal or console server to transmit the halt sequence to the serviced system.
See the section “Transmitting a Break Signal on a Console Line” for details about configuring the system record to transmit a break signal.
For example, to halt the serviced system, SALT, enter:
Command: HALT SALT
Do you want to halt the system? [Y/N]?
You are asked to verify that you want to halt the system.
If you do not specify a system in the command, the halt sequence is transmitted to the system in the currently selected area.
