Adding Custom Widgets to a Dashview
Custom widgets are added to a dashview using the drag-and-drop operation. They are taken from the Widgets tab in the Catalog pane. Custom widgets can be used to depict a department within the organization a region and so on.
After placing the widget on the dashview, the widget's settings are accessed for modifications.
Follow these steps:
- In the Catalog pane, select the Widgets tab.
- Drag and drop a widget into an existing or new dashview.
- Right click on the widget (or click on the widget's menu) and select Settings. The Widget Settings page opens.
- In the General tab:
- In Title, type the name of the widget.
- In Description, type a description for the widget.
- In Entity, the name of the entity as it was set in CA Business Service Insight displays.
- In Entity Path, the entity type and parent entities in the hierarchy display.
- In Display, select the type of Widget (Speedometer or Alert Icon)
- Select the Show results check box to show the calculation result below the widget icon. This check box is enabled only when the Average calculation method is selected in the Calculation tab.
- Select the Show Border and Title check box to have the widget's information bar displayed. The ability to remove the border and title is useful when the dashview has a background (e.g. a map) and many widgets are placed in specific locations to indicate specific details.
- In Alert icon size, select the viewing size of the Alert icon (Small, Medium or Large). This option is available for Alert icon widgets only.
- In Ranges, type the minimum and maximum values of the speedometer. This option is available for Speedometer widgets only.

- Repeat steps a through d to add more custom navigations.
Custom navigation is useful to define a one-click drill-down path to another dashview. It provides the user with a rich explanation that can be fitted to specific situations such as from a country to a region, from a widget to a report, from a service to its impacted customers, etc. In addition, using custom navigation enables the user to hide the target dashview. For more information, see GoTo Settings.
- In the Composition tab:
- Add individual entities from the Entities tab (drag-and-drop) to the list of objects by which the calculation is performed.
- Click
to remove entities from the list.
- If the Average roll-up method was selected in the Calculation tab, select the Custom Weights check box and set a relative weight of each entity in the list. For more information, see Security Implications.
Important: If an entity that was added to the list of objects by which the calculation is performed is deleted in CA Business Service Insight, the custom widget is updated and the weight of the deleted entity is divided among the remaining entities according to the ratio of their weights. For example, a custom widget composed of three entities (E1, E2 and E3) with weights 20, 30 and 50 respectively. E3 is deleted. The custom widget is updated and E1 has a weight of 40 (20/50*50+20) and E2 has a weight of 60 (30/50*50+30).
Note: The sum of all weights must sum up to 100.
