Migrating to Scratch Cartridge Tapes

This migration method uses CA VM:Tape to physically mount a 3480 cartridge tape to update critical TMC information for that tape. This ensures CA VM:Tape updates the essential TMC fields DEN, TRTCH, LABEL, CJOB, CSTEP, and FLAG1 to reflect a saved cartridge tape. You will have to manually update additional TMC information such as password and expiration date.

The procedure assumes that the following conditions are met:

• A series of scratch cartridge tapes currently exists in your TMC. The system administrator must create records for these cartridges using the VMTBUILD utility and the CARTRIDGE parameter on the SERIES record.
• Standard label scratch cartridges, corresponding to the above TMC records, exist.
• The user ID performing this migration has TAPELIBR and ANYTAPE authorizations defined in the VMTAPE CONFIG file.
• The contents of the reel tape physically fit onto the cartridge tape. If the contents of the reel tape will not fit onto the cartridge tape, use an application-specific procedure to perform the migration.
