CA VM:Tape supports IBM 3590, 3590E, and 3590H tape drives, and High Performance tape (HPT) cartridges and Extended Length High Performance tape (XPT) cartridges.
Although HPT and XPT cartridges are the same size and shape as 18-track and 36-track cartridges, HPT and XPT cartridges are not compatible with those cartridges. HPT and XPT cartridges are the only type of media 3590/E/H tape drives can use. 3590/E/H drives are the only drives that can read HPT and XPT cartridges.
CA VM:Tape supports the use of 3590/E/H tape drives in 3490 emulation modes with HPT and XPT cartridges.
