Classifying Storage Objects

Classifying storage objects streamlines management data across your enterprise. For example, you could create a class that monitors the space used by all of the volumes on your system. You could also create groups of classes that are categorized by area, storage administrator, or function.

CA SRM provides two tools for creating classes:

• Enterprise Definition Language (EDL)—This special-purpose language can be used to select and manipulate network objects for storage management purposes.
• Class Builder Wizard—This wizard furnishes a special mode in which you use a product‑supplied template to create a class definition. This wizard produces the class definition based on the EDL statement that it creates.

EDL lets you select and manage objects and create timing condition statements. EDL statements are constructed from a set of building blocks assembled according to the rules of EDL syntax. CA SRM provides an EDL Editor to help you write EDL statements.
