Using Service Builder › Management of Services › Service and Folder Inheritance
Service and Folder Inheritance
You can configure the inheritance folders and services, as follows:
After you create the inherited folder or service, the following rules apply:
- New folders and services that are added to the parent folder are not added to the child folder. You cannot change the service option group definitions of the services in the child folder structure. However, you can add new folders and services.
- Over time, you update the services (including the service option groups) in a parent folder. Your changes are reflected in the services of its child folder.
- Similarly, over time, you update the parent services. These updates can include the service option groups, default definitions, and so forth). Such changes are reflected in the child services of the parent services.
- You can change the details of the child folder. However, if you change the parent folder details, your updates automatically take effect in the child folder. Your updates in the parent folder override any existing values in the child folder. The only exceptions are as follows:
- For folders, the folder name is preserved.
- For services, the service name, dates, and status are preserved.
- If the service option group definition of the new, dependent service is changed, the inheritance relationship with the parent service is removed. Consequently, changes to the parent service are no longer reflected in the child service.
You can also create an inherited service option group.
