Create an Inherited Folder

You can create an inherited folder by copying an existing folder and using inheritance. The inherited (child) folder contains the same contents as its parent folder. When the parent folder is updated, the same updates occur in the child folder automatically. If you do not want to use inheritance, you can copy a folder or service without inheritance.

Follow these steps:

  1. Review the preliminary information about service and folder inheritance.
  2. Click Service Builder, Services.

The Services page appears and displays the folders containing services, organized hierarchically according to category.

  3. Expand the tree and select the folder that you want to copy.
  4. Click the Copy icon in the Actions column for the folder or service you want to copy.

A message appears asking which one of the following you want to include in the copy:

  5. Answer the prompt.
  6. Expand the tree and select the folder where you want to paste the inherited folder.
  7. Click Paste as Inherited.

The new child folder is created at the root level of the hierarchy. This folder has the same characteristics as the parent folder that was in the clipboard. However, the names of this folder and any child folders and services use the prefix "Inherited from."

Note: To add the inherited folder under an existing folder, click the Paste as Inherited icon in the Action column of the target folder.

You have created the inherited folder.
