Create an EC2 Resource Pool

Create an EC2 resource pool for AMI reservations.

Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Reservation Manager using CA Server Automation administrator user credentials.
  2. Select Administer Your Reservation Manager, Manage Your Resource Pools.
  3. Click Actions and select Add EC2 Pool from the drop-down menu.
  4. Enter a pool name and (optionally) a pool description, then click Next.
  5. Use the Create Resource Pool wizard to set up your pool.
    Key Pair Name

Defines the key pair name that is used to access the AMI instance. Select one from the drop-down list.

Note: Provide the private key file that is associated with the selected key pair to users who are reserving Linux AMI instances. After the instance is running, users must specify the path to the private key file to open an SSH connection to the running instance.

    Network Selection area:
    Public

Indicates that instances are to be deployed to Amazon’s public cloud. Optionally, select an availability zone. The EC2 best practice is not to select a specific zone, but if desired you can select one from the list.

    Private

Indicates a private area in the cloud; a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). Select a subnet.

  6. Specify limits on the duration and number of AMIs a user can request when submitting a reservation:
    Maximum Days

Limits reservation length to the specified number of days. Choose Unlimited if you do not want to place restrictions on reservation length.

    Maximum Systems

Limits how many instances a user can reserve from this pool at one time.

  7. Select the organizational units whose members are permitted to start AMIs in the context of the selected EC2 pool, and click Finish.

Note: (Optional) Grant access to yourself before granting users access so that you can test reservations from this pool. Skip this step if you want to grant access later.
