D9: Candidate Private Library Searches – Detailed

The D9 display lists the private libraries that are good candidates for management by CA PMO. This display lists candidate libraries in descending order by total number of searches.

The number of libraries shown on the D9 display will not exceed the value that you specify for the NUMCANDS parameter.

This display reports on the number of library searches, as opposed to the number of BLDL/FIND requests. See the section on D2: BLDL/FIND Request Activity in this chapter for information on the difference between BLDL/FIND requests and library directory searches.

The following screen illustrates a sample D9 display:

Column Headings

The column headings on the D9 display are described in the following list:

Library Name

The name of a good candidate for management by CA PMO. The library name may be preceded by an index designator:

E

The library is ineligible due to an F PMO,EXCLPRVT command.

EMu

The library is ineligible and is cached.

N

The library is not eligible for management because the value for the NUMADDED parameter has been exceeded.

O

The library is offline.

OMu

The library is offline and cached.

P

The library is ineligible because it is a PDSE.

S

The library is ineligible for management due to virtual storage size limits.

X

The library is excluded using the INCLAUTO or EXCLAUTO parameter.

XMu

The library is excluded and cached.

If you see the word OTHER instead of a library name, this is the last entry in the display. It is a summary of all libraries that had been candidates for management, but no longer are. This includes libraries that were included for management (either automatically or manually) and libraries that dropped out of the candidate list because of too little directory search activity.

Note: If a library dropped out of the candidate list for a while, and then reentered it, this entry shows the statistics for that library before it left the candidate list.

Volser

The serial number of the volume that contains the library.

Total Searches

All searches of the directory of this library since it entered the candidate list.

By default, CA PMO automatically starts to manage candidate libraries when their directory search activity warrants it. In general, CA PMO works best when it selects the libraries to be managed automatically.

%Fnd

The percentage of searches of the directory of this library in which the member was found.

To estimate the number of these searches, multiply this percentage by the number of searches in the same category, and divide the result by 100.

%Nfnd

The percentage of searches in which the member was not found.

To estimate the number of these searches, multiply this percentage by the number of searches in the same category, and divide the result by 100.

Potential ET Savings

An estimate of the elapsed time CA PMO would have saved if this library were managed in a hash table. This time is measured from the point at which the library enters (or reenters) the candidate list. This figure is based on the difference between average elapsed times for I/O library searches and hash table searches.

If you see three asterisks (***), there are no potential elapsed time savings.

This display may show that you can save additional elapsed time by including more private libraries for CA PMO management. If this is the case, you should specify new values for the INCLAUTO or EXCLAUTO parameter.
