The D8 display shows library-by-library or volume-by-volume statistics on searches for members of private libraries that CA PMO manages.
This display refers to library searches, as opposed to BLDL/FIND requests. See the section on D2: BLDL/FIND Request Activity in this chapter for information on the difference between library directory searches and BLDL/FIND requests.
By default, the D8 display lists all of the private libraries that CA PMO manages (in alphanumeric order). To restrict this list to a set of particular libraries, you can type the following command from any other monitor display:
D8-library name
where library name can be the beginning of a library name or the entire name, up to 44 characters.
Commands you can issue from the command line of the D8 display include:
Restricts the list of libraries on the display to the library name or partial name you specify.
Sorts the display to show the managed libraries on an entire volume. The volser can be the beginning of a volume serial number or the entire volume serial number, up to six characters. If you do not specify a volser the display shows all managed libraries, sorted by volume. In all cases, the libraries will be listed in descending order by total number of searches, and the first entry for a volume will be a summary for that volume.
Note: To obtain detailed information on directory searches of a particular library, you can generate an offline report. For details, see the chapter "Producing Offline Reports for Managed Private Libraries."
The following screen illustrates a sample D8 display sorted alphabetically:

The primary column headings on the D8 display are described in the following:
Usually, this is the name of the library. In the first entry for a volume, the heading "VOLUME TOTAL" is displayed to indicate a summary for an entire volume. The information following the library name (or following the "VOLUME TOTAL" heading) describes the search activity against the library or volume. An index may precede the library name:
The library was automatically added.
The library is protected because it was specified on the INCLPRVT parameter or command.
The library is suspended because it was specified on a SUSPREF command.
The library hash table is being rebuilt and the library is currently invalidated.
The library is not managed by SMS.
The library was in a concatenation that was treated as must-cache by SMS.
The library was in a concatenation that was treated as may-cache by SMS.
The library was in a concatenation that was treated as never-cache by SMS.
The library was at one time found in a concatenation treated as must-cache by SMS. The + will not appear when the class is Mu; it will appear only when the Conc status is removed.
The library was found as the first library in a concatenation.
The library was never found as the first library in a concatenation. See the section How Storage Classes are Represented at I/O Time by SMS in the chapter "How CA PMO Works" for more information.
The serial number of the volume that contains the library.
The total number of searches against the library or volume since CA PMO started managing it.
The elapsed time that CA PMO saved on searches of the library or volume. CA PMO bases this figure on the difference in average elapsed times for I/O and the times for either the managed list or the hash tables (as appropriate).
If you see three asterisks (***), CA PMO did not save any elapsed time.
The elapsed time that CA PMO saved.
If you see three asterisks (***), CA PMO did not save any elapsed time.
The secondary column headings on the D8 display are described in the following:
The percentage of directory searches of this library (or volume) in which the member was found. To estimate the number of these searches, multiply the percentage of found members by the number of total searches for those members and divide the result by 100.
For information on how CA PMO counts and categorizes searches, see the discussion of the Count field earlier in this chapter.
The percentage of searches in which the member was not found. To estimate the number of these searches, multiply the percentage of members that were not found by the total number of searches for those members and divide the result by 100.
Note: If a sought-for member is not found in a hash table, CA PMO cannot determine that it does not exist without using DASD I/O. If a sought-for member is not found in the managed list, CA PMO must rely on the hash tables or DASD I/O to finish the search.
The average time it takes to resolve a search against the library or volume. For more information, see the discussion of Avg Elap Time earlier in this chapter.
The elapsed time that CA PMO saved.
If you see three asterisks (***), CA PMO did not save any elapsed time.
The row headings on the D8 display are described in the following list:
Searches that the hash tables resolved.
Searches that were resolved by DASD I/O. See the discussion of the Updates/Concatenated Lib field earlier in this chapter for information on I/O directory searches of libraries with hash tables.
