8.1.3.2 Data Source Operational Considerations

Chargeback usually requires the measurement and billing of
all users of a service. In the case of network chargeback,
the implication of this billing approach is that data must be
collected for all terminal users of the network(s).

In determining the source for network billing information
(NPM, NetView, or NetMaster), you must consider the
resources you need to produce the raw information for the
chargeback process.

Monitoring a medium to large data network may be more costly
in resources (CPU time, virtual storage, volume of data) than
you anticipate. Therefore, before you decide on a source, we
recommend that you activate the product of your choice and
determine its operational impact. Consult the vendor
supplying the product to ensure that implementation of the
product is optimal and that you have applied all
performance-related maintenance.
