6.3.3 Establishing a Network Identifier (NETWRKID)
Network Identifier is an eight-character variable, NETWRKID,
which is the highest (most significant) sequence/summary
variable in each of the CA MICS network files.
Currently, only two of the network monitors supported by the
CA MICS Network Analyzer Option, NPM and CA NetSpy (network
session accounting/network gateway accounting data only),
carry the network name in their records. Because the other
monitors do not provide a network name, you must code a
unique one-to-eight-character network identifier for each
network processed by CA MICS.
For the CA MICS files derived from NPM and CA NetSpy network
session accounting, you can set NETWRKID to the value of the
NPM/CA NetSpy data field containing the network identifier of
the primary logical unit in a session.
The network identifier is used in several places in CA MICS:
o The highest qualifier in each CA MICS Network Analyzer
Option file
o The CA MICS Tabular Reports and Graphic Inquiry Reports
o SNTOPS, the CA MICS Network Analyzer options, described
in the next chapter
Section 7.3.4, Network Identifier Exit Routine, describes the
user routine you must code to establish this variable.
