6.1.6 CA NetMaster Network Error Warning System (NEWS)

CA NetMaster NEWS produces NEWS Events and Statistics records
that are directed to SMF as the type 37 record through the
NEWS NCL &SMFWRITE statement.  CA NetMaster NEWS provides
data similar to that provided by NetView Hardware
Monitor/NPDA.

The CA MICS Network Analyzer requires that this data be in
SMF form.  It is your responsibility to archive SMF data
regularly as input to CA MICS DAILY update process.

CA NetMaster provides two ways of writing SMF type 37
records, and only one of them produces records that can be
processed into CA MICS.  Coordinate with your site's
administrator to be sure that your CA NetMaster produces CA
NetMaster SMF 37 records through the use of the CA NetMaster
&SMFWRITE exit. The alternative, using the CA NetMaster
NEWSXSMF exit, produces SMF records with headers that are
incompatible with CA MICS.

Tailor the CA NetMaster NEWS recording options and filters to
control the quality and volume of data recorded and define
the error-to-traffic ratio thresholds for generating event
records.
