6.3.1.1.2 Device Allocation Records
Device allocation records (types 02, C2, 03, and C3) are
created when a virtual device is detached from the virtual
machine. They can also be created using the information from
section 6.3.1.1.
Device allocation records are created for any device that is
allocated for exclusive control of the virtual machine.
Allocations can occur from use of the CP DEFINE command for
temporary disk, the operator CP ATTACH command, the DIAL
command, or the DEDICATE command in the VM directory.
There are two device records: one for temporary disk (type
03/C3) and one for dedicated devices (type 02/C2). Each
record provides device connect (allocation) time and device
type information. In addition, the dedicated device record
carries the real address of the terminal used for the virtual
machine console (terminal), and the temporary disk record
carries the amount of space allocated.
