3.2.1.2.7 VM Channel Path Activity Report

The VM Channel Path Activity report provides information
about channel path usage. Channel paths provide the
interface that allows for control units and I/O devices to be
physically connected to the I/O subsystem.

 INTENDED USE:

The report is designed to help analyze each channel path by
path ID. For each ID, the type of path and the percent path
usage is reported. If a path is offline, this is reported in
place of the percent usage. The report can help detect
bottlenecks in the I/O subsystem caused by excessive path
 utilization.

For systems using HiperSockets, detailed traffic information
is provided in a separate section, at the end of the report.

 FORMAT:

A tabular listing that contains one line of information
for each active channel configured during the reporting
period. In addition to the channel path ID, the following
columns are shown on the report:

CHANNEL PATH ID - Hexadecimal number of the channel
         path identifier.

TYPE - Type of channel path.

SHR Y/N - An indication of whether a channel path
is defined as shared between one or more logical
partitions. YES indicates the channel path is
         shared.

UTILIZATION(%) PART - The channel path utilization
         percentage for the individual partition.

UTILIZATION(%) TOTAL - The channel path utilization
         percentage for the CPC.

UTILIZATION(%) BUS - Percentage of bus cycles, the
bus has been found busy for this channel in relation
         to the theoretical limit.

READ (M/B SEC) PART - Transfer data rates from the
control unit to the channel for this partition.

READ (M/B SEC) TOTAL - Transfer data rates from the
control unit to the channel for the CPC.

WRITE (M/B SEC) PART - Transfer data rates from the
channel to the control unit for this partition.

WRITE (M/B SEC) TOTAL - Transfer data rates from the
channel to the control unit for the CPC.

An example of this report is shown in Figure 3-21.
