3.2 MICF Inquiries

The CA MICS Analyzer Option for VM/CMS provides a set of
prepared report and color graphics inquiries categorized for
analysis by service, reliability, performance, and workload.
These inquiries provide an immediate source of useful
reporting and color graphics presentations, and are
implemented using the CA MICS Information Center Facility
(MICF).

You may use Execution Time Data Selection panels to tailor
the output from these inquiries. In addition, you may
develop customized reports for your site with a minimum
effort by modifying copies of the distributed inquiries.

The distributed inquiry names have been designed for easy
identification. Each name identifies the information area
being reported on, the type of output it has (i.e., color
graphics, printer graphics, or printed reports), and the
timespan from which it is produced (that is, DETAIL, DAILY,
WEEKLY, MONTHLY). It also has its own unique identifier to
distinguish it from other unique inquiries of the same type.

Consider, for example, the MICF inquiry VMXCX1:

o VMX indicates that the inquiry comes from the CA MICS
      VMX Information Area.

o C indicates that the output is color graphics.

o X indicates that the timespan is DETAIL.

o 1 is an identifier that distinguishes the inquiry from
other VMX Information Area MICF inquiries that also
have color graphics output and are produced from the
      DAYS timespan.

MICF is described in detail in the MICF User Guide. The list
of distributed MICF inquiries, instructions on how to modify
them, and descriptions of the output that they produce are
provided in the following sections:
