3.2.1.1.6 Detail VMX System Summary Report

This report produces a tabular listing of overall system
activity in time sequence. The information is summarized by
the number of minutes specified by the user as a run-time
execution parameter. Activity is displayed over the period
of time specified by the user, again as run-time execution
parameters.

INTENDED USE:

To monitor system activity at a gross level. It can be
used for post-analysis of periods of poor system
performance or for performing comparisons of activity at
different times of a day, different days of a week, etc.

FORMAT:

A tabular report in chronological order, where each line
represents a summarization of DETAIL data across a user-
specified period of time. The time column represents the
timestamp of the end of the summarized interval. The
next five columns all represent percentages: percent wait
time, percent CP system time, percent CPU supervisor time
charged to users, percent user problem state time, and the
combined system, supervisor, and problem state percent of
time. The next two columns contain the total-to-virtual-
ratios: first the ratio of total CPU time used to the CPU
time spent in emulation mode; and second, the ratio of the
total CPU time charged to users to the time spent in
   emulation mode.

The remaining columns of the report are described below:

MAIN UTIL - The percent of total pageable frames in
the system that are in the available list.

STORAGE CORESAT - A storage saturation index,
computed as shown below in the section on
calculations. It indicates how many times storage
must be expanded to eliminate paging.

CONTENTION RATIO - A ratio of contention for spots on
the dispatch list, computed as shown below in the
section on calculations. A value of 1 indicates no
        contention.

PAGE RATE TO ASTOR - The paging rate to auxiliary
        storage

PAGE RATE TO XSTOR - The paging rate to expanded
        storage

USERS LOGGED ON - The number of logged on users

USERS TOT - The average number of users active in
total time (emulation mode and/or CP Supervisor) per
        monitor interval

USERS ACTIVE VIRT - The average number of users
active in emulation mode per monitor interval

USERS VF - The average number of users utilizing
        vector facility processing

PCT AREA USED PAGE - The percent of page slots used

PCT AREA USED SPOOL - The percent of spool slots used

An example of this report is shown in Figure 3-8.

DATA SOURCE (File/Timespan):

   VMXSGP01 - DETAIL

DATA ELEMENTS USED:

SGPPCWAT - Percent CPU Wait Time
SGPPCSYS - Percent CPU Virtual Time
SGPPCSUP - Percent CPU Supervisor Time
SGPPCPRB - Percent CPU SYSTEM Time
SGPPCTOT - Percent CPU Total Time
SGPTVRAT - Total to Virtual Ratio (System)
SGPTVRVM - Total to Virtual Ratio (Users)
   SGPSTGUT - Storage Utilization
SGPPGRTA - Page Rate to Auxiliary Storage
SGPPGRTX - Page Rate to Expanded Storage
SGPUSRLG - Number of Users Logged On
SGPACTIV - Active Users (Total Time)
SGPACTVV - Active Users (Emulation Mode)
   SGPPCPSU - Page Slot Utilization
   SGPPCSSU - Spool Slot Utilization

CALCULATIONS:

The various elements to be reported on are summarized
across the user-specified time period, if necessary. The
following calculations are then performed for the storage
saturation element, CORESAT, and the contention ratio,
   CRATIO:

   CORESAT = SGPDPASZ/(SGPESWSS+SGPRSVPG+SGPLOKFR+SGPRSHRF);

   CRATIO = (SGPCDISP+SGPCELIG) / SGPCDISP;

Finally, prior to reporting, the "number of users" data
elements are averaged by dividing by the number of monitor
   intervals

USAGE CONSIDERATIONS:

To obtain a detail report, with one line per monitor
interval, specify zero for the summarization period in the
   run-time execution parameters.
