A software asset is a software product that you own or plan to acquire. Software assets have unique identifiers, such as serial numbers, configurations, or contacts. Software asset records include information about the following items:
Important! We do not recommend that you manage software assets in CA APM. To take advantage of the enhancements that this release provides, we recommend that you use CA SAM to manage your software assets and licenses.
The Software Assets map file and data file show you how to map basic software data. The mapping creates 20 software assets, associated models, companies, and costs.
software mapping.map
software.csv
You can find the sample map files, with their corresponding sample data files, in the following location:
C:\Program Files\CA\ITAM\Data Importer\Samples
Important! Use a test database (not a production database) when you load sample data with the sample mapping files. You cannot remove test data easily after it is imported into your database.
The Software Assets mapping assumes that a company with a company alias of TIS is available in your CA APM database before you process the Software Assets sample import.
Note: If a company with a company alias of TIS does not exist, you can add a company with this alias to your CA APM database. To create a company, start the Data Importer and select Tools, Advanced Settings. On the Settings dialog, select Automatically create new Secondary Lookup object. The company object is created based on the data provided in the software.csv data file.
