At this point, the administrator should have a clear idea about the organization's data requirements, processing requirements, and facilities available through CA IDMS DDS to distribute the organization's databases and applications.

The administrator can begin to implement the network design by creating a network diagram that can be used as a basis for coding the necessary DC/UCF system generation statements. This process involves defining node and connection characteristics:

• Node Characteristics—Name and identification of the node, operating environment, and associated databases
• Connection Characteristics—Type of connection and path identification
