Configure Global Subscription Settings

You can configure global subscription settings as soon as you have installed all of the CA Enterprise Log Manager servers.

Consider configuring the proxy setting for servers you plan to assign as subscription proxies (online or offline) before configuring global subscription settings. This setting populates the global available lists for proxies for clients and proxies for content updates.

To configure the global subscription settings

  1. Click the Administration tab, click Services, click the Subscription Module, and examine the Global Services Configuration: Subscription Module settings in the right pane.
  2. Accept or change the setting for the default subscription proxy. The default subscription proxy is typically the CA Enterprise Log Manager server that is installed first and may also be the management CA Enterprise Log Manager server. This is the server that will be contacted by each online subscription client for which a subscription proxy list has not been configured. If such a subscription proxy list exists, but is exhausted when searched, the client will get updates from this default.

Note: This setting cannot be overridden at the local level. What is specified here applies to all CA Enterprise Log Manager servers that use the same management CA Enterprise Log Manager server.

  3. Set the schedule for the default proxy and online proxies to contact the CA subscription server for updates. Clients contact proxies for updates after the proxy has downloaded the update from the CA subscription server.
    1. Specify the frequency in hours with which the default proxy is to contact the CA subscription server for updates in the Update Frequency field.
    2. Use the following guidelines for setting the Update Start Time.
      • If you specify a value less than 24 for Update Frequency, make no selection with the Update Start Time spinner. Subscription updates start when the iGateway is started.
      • If you specify a value equal to or greater than 24 for Update Frequency, specify the hour on a 24-hour clock that you want the update to begin.
  4. Accept the preconfigured RSS Feed URL, which links to the CA Subscription server. This URL enables the population of the available modules to download.
  5. Accept the displayed public key or select the correct version. Since this key is used by all subscription proxies, it cannot be modified at the local server level.

Important! Do not modify this value except under the direction of Technical Support. When a key change is needed for a given download, this field is automatically updated before the download begins.

  6. Specify a value in days or accept the default, 30, for how long downloaded updates are to be retained on the system. Allow sufficient time to copy the download directory from a source subscription proxy to all offline subscription proxies and for all updates to be downloaded and installed by all clients.

Note: The cleanup updates setting applies to all subscription proxies and offline subscription proxies and cannot be modified at the local level.

  7. Consider the following when configuring the Auto Restart after OS update, which applies to all CA Enterprise Log Managers, when an operating system update is downloaded and installed:
  8. Select from the available Modules to Download those modules that apply to your operating environment. For example, if you have no CA Enterprise Log Manager servers running a given application or operating system, you would not select the corresponding module to download.

Note: The available list is populated at the update cycle following your entry of a valid RSS feed URL. When this occurs is determined by the specified update start time and specified update frequency. If the RSS Feed URL is set and the Modules to Download is not populated, ensure the URL is valid. If your network is behind a firewall, ensure that the HTTP proxy setting is enabled and that the associated settings are correct for the online subscription proxy.

  9. Select from the available Subscription Proxy(s) for Client list one or more proxies that clients are to contact in a round robin fashion to get CA Enterprise Log Manager software and operating system updates. For a large enterprise, this setting should be modified at the local level. Consider either supplying the list that will be used by most clients or supplying a "superlist" that includes the proxies from which local configurations can select.

Note: This setting can also be used to create a tiered proxy architecture, where a subscription proxy contacts the selected subscription proxies for updates to pass down to clients, rather than contacting the CA Subscription server directly.

  10. Select from the available Subscription Proxy(s) for Content Updates the proxy that is to push non-binary updates to the CA Enterprise Log Manager user store. It is a good practice to select a second proxy as a backup to ensure updates are delivered if the server that normally performs this task goes down. Non-binary updates include XMP files, DM files, integrations, configuration updates for CA Enterprise Log Manager modules, and public key updates. In an offline environment, you can select the offline proxy that pushes the updates to the CA Enterprise Log Manager user store.
  11. If your network is behind a firewall and you have an HTTP proxy server, change the setting to Yes, and complete the four related fields. Click Test Proxy to verify connectivity. These settings can be overridden by servers configured as online subscription proxies.
  12. Click Save.
