DMM Settings

The DMM Settings dialog lets you set parameters that determine how CA DMM performs the migration task. The options set in this dialog modify the corresponding option in the DMM Options file.

The following options appear on the dialog:

Migration Overwrite

Determines when to overwrite duplicate files when applying files to the destination machine. CA DMM assumes you want to migrate and apply new settings. Choose from the following:

Never

Prevents CA DMM from overwriting any duplicate file on the destination system.

Newer

Lets CA DMM overwrite any duplicate file applied to the destination system that has a date/timestamp newer than the existing one. Newer is the default for a migration.

Always

Lets CA DMM overwrite all duplicate files on the destination system.

Revision Overwrite

Determines when to overwrite duplicate files when applying a revision to the destination machine. CA DMM assumes that you are restoring your configuration back to a previous state. Choose from the following:

Never

Prevents CA DMM from overwriting any duplicate file on the destination system.

Newer

Lets CA DMM overwrite any duplicate file applied to the destination system that has a date/timestamp newer than the existing one.

Always

Lets CA DMM overwrite all duplicate files on the destination system. Always is the default for applying a revision.

Compression

Specifies extent to which a DNA file is compressed. Choose from the following:

None

Prevents CA DMM from compressing a DNA file.

Quickest

Compresses a DNA file in the quickest compression method available. This sometimes causes the file to be less compressed.

Smallest

Compresses a DNA file to the greatest extent, which can be more time consuming.

If space is not an issue during migrations, setting the compression to None decreases the amount of time required to perform the migration.

Application Settings

Specifies whether specific application data files (associated to the application by file extension), or the application itself, can be globally selected for migration.

Special Folders

Specifies if My Documents folders are re-registered if they are redirected during a migration. The following option is available:

Reset Special Folder Location

If the special folder is redirected on the destination, CA DMM re-registers the location as the default location.

For instance, if you redirect the My Documents folder to a new location on the destination (a non-standard location), the new location will be registered. Any programs that save their files in the My Documents folder will save those files into the new My Documents location.
