How to Configure the FCI Plug-in

Note: The following sections describe how to configure FCI in the File Server Resource Manager. However, the terms "FCI" or "file classification infrastructure" are not used in any File Server Resource Manager screens or dialogs. Instead, the screens and dialogs only use terms such as "classifications" and "classification properties".

You can use the CCS FCI plug-in to:

• Classify files by assigning a CCS classification to a custom classification property.

  This method is the simplest way to deploy the CCS FCI plug-in. Use the File Server Resource Manager to configure classification properties.

• Classify files by mapping a CCS classification to a built-in FCI classification property.

  For this method, you must configure the parameters of the classification property. Specifically, you must assign CCS classifications to individual values of the built-in FCI classification property. Use the File Server Resource Manager to configure classification properties.

• (Windows Server 8 only) Limit user access to files based on CCS file classifications.

  You set up conditional access by editing a file's security settings in Windows Explorer.

• (Windows Server 8 only) Encrypt files based on their CCS classification.

  You encrypt files by setting up a file management task in the File Server Resource Manager.

• (Windows Server 8 only) Flag files as 'expired' based on their CCS classification.

  You identify expired files by setting up a file management task in the File Server Resource Manager.

These tasks are described in the following sections.
