What You Can Do from the Monitor Interface

You can monitor console output from the monitor interface. This interface displays multiple windows of information for monitoring and responding to console activity.

You can do the following tasks from the monitor interface:

• Connect to the console of a serviced system.
• Unlock a console in use by another user.
• View current console output in real time.
• Move up and down the log data in the active log files.
• Display log data for one or more serviced systems.
• Switch between active log windows using the NEXT and PREVIOUS commands.
• Cycle through current console output for the serviced systems being monitored.
• Find historical log data.
• Read previously archived log data.
• Transmit a halt sequence or break signal on a console line.
• Display timestamps with log data for all serviced systems displayed.
• Perform a dialog with specified serviced systems.

You can do these tasks for any system you specify. If you do not specify any, the first system in the configuration database for which you have been granted access will be displayed.

The monitor interface has its own set of commands with which to perform the tasks (see Monitor Interface Commands)

Although you are informed when events occur, if you want to view the context for events on serviced systems, you must do this from the C3 interface. See Chapter 7, “Using Console Manager From the C3 Interface,” for information about how to perform this task.
