Objective Statement Tab

Use the Objective Statement tab to create and modify objective statements. This tab is available to users with Contract Advanced Author permissions only.

An objective statement is a written statement that defines, in layman's terms, the objective of a specific service level objective. Objective statements are displayed in the GUI to provide effective capturing of the metric essence. By modifying parameters and fields, business users can enter localized text to define complex targets and simplify the “what if” analysis by simply changing a field or parameter value.

An objective statement is made up of free text, fields and parameters. Fields include metric information (service domain, domain category and so on) and contract details (such as contact party and contract name).

For example in the objective statement, “No less than 99% availability per site during business hours, considering only downtimes lasting more than 10 minutes,” the percentage of availability can be changed to 95% or 70% or any other number; the names of the site can be modified, as can the other parameters in this objective statement.

Localization of the objective statement is supported. If English is not the local language, the field “no less than” can be translated to the local language, and still maintain the logic of the objective statement.

The Objective Statement tab comprises the objective statement text box and two sub tabs, Parameters and Fields.

The Parameters sub tab contains the parameters management functionality.

You can add a parameter, delete a parameter, update the parameter value, or add the parameter to the objectives statement provided that you have the required permissions. For more information, see Metric-Level Parameters.

The Fields sub tab contains all of the fields that can be added to the objective statement structure. Certain fields contain variables and can be modified in addition to being added to the structure. Field values that can be changed include a drop-down box for selecting the value.

Fields that can be added to the objective statement include:

Contract, Contract Party, Currency, Currency Symbol, Effective From, Effective To, Domain Category, Fee, Service, Service Domain, Clustering, Relation, Timeslot, Time zone, tracking period, tracking period unit, target value, target value unit and target value unit symbol.

The objective statement can be displayed in reports. For more information, see Drilling into Reports.
