Use the Standard Monitor Properties to specify monitoring device settings for a CA Standard Monitor, CA Virtual Systems Monitor, or CA Multi-Port Monitor.
Complete the following fields:
Specifies the host name of the monitor.
If you do not know the host name, type the IPv4 address in the Management Address field and click DNS. The management console attempts to resolve the host name.
If the management console cannot resolve the host name or management address, you can add the monitoring device but you must synchronize the monitoring device in order to start monitoring. If you want to add a CA Multi-Port Monitor that is not accessible, be sure to select the Is Multi-Port Monitor option.
Specifies the management IPv4 address of the monitor. If you do not know the IP address, type the host name in the Server Name field and click IP. The management console attempts to resolve the IPv4 address.
If you want the management console to receive digest files from a Cisco NAM, specify the management IP address of the management console.
If the management console cannot resolve the host name or management address, you can add the monitoring device but you must synchronize the monitoring device in order to start monitoring. If you want to add a CA Multi-Port Monitor that is not accessible, be sure to select the Is Multi-Port Monitor option.
Important! 0.0.0.0 is not a valid IP address. If this address is displayed, do not select it. This IP address incorrectly appears in the list when you have a NIC that is enabled but disconnected.
Specifies whether to configure an additional monitor NIC. Choose this option to monitor:
To monitor asynchronous traffic, select the Single Feed check box and assign the Packet Mirror feed to each monitor NIC.
Select this option to add a CA Multi-Port Monitor. This option is displayed when the management console cannot contact the monitoring device by host name or IP address.
Specifies the IP address of the monitor NIC on the CA Standard Monitor. To enable multiple monitor NICs, for example, to monitor both unoptimized and WAN-optimized traffic, click the Enable Multiple Monitor NICs option and specify a monitor address for each NIC.
Important! 0.0.0.0 is not a valid IP address. If this address is displayed, do not select it. This IP address incorrectly appears in the list when you have a NIC that is enabled but disconnected.
Specify the source of the mirrored packets to be received by the Monitor NIC:
Specifies the packet source is unoptimized server traffic from the data center. When you add the Monitor NIC, the management console names the monitor feed using the following convention: IP_address Packets, where IP_address is the address of the Monitor NIC.
The management console reports this packet source in the Server network segment.
Specifies the packet source is WAN-optimized traffic from a Physical In-Path Steelhead configuration in the data center. When specifying this option, be sure to specify the In-Path IP address of the Steelhead appliance.
When you add the Monitor NIC, the management console names the Steelhead monitor feed using the following convention: IP_address Physical Riverbed, where IP_address is the address of the Monitor NIC.
The management console reports this packet source in the WAN network segment.
Specifies the packet source is WAN-optimized traffic from a Virtual In-Path Steelhead configuration in the data center. When specifying this option, be sure to specify the In-Path IP address of the Steelhead appliance.
When you add the Monitor NIC, the management console names the Steelhead monitor feed using the following convention: IP_address Virtual Riverbed, where IP_address is the address of the Monitor NIC.
The management console reports this packet source in the WAN network segment.
Specifies the packet source is unoptimized client traffic from a branch location. When you add the Monitor NIC, the management console names the monitor feed using the following convention: IP_address Client, where IP_address is the address of the Monitor NIC.
The management console reports this packet source in the Client network segment.
Specifies a monitoring device incident response.
Specifies whether to enable or disable availability monitoring on the monitoring device.
Specifies whether to disable packet monitoring and maximize available resources to calculate response time metrics from any monitoring devices that are assigned to the CA Standard Monitor, such as a NI GigaStor. The Monitor Address field is not displayed when this option is selected.
You cannot change this setting after you add the monitor. If necessary, delete the monitor and then add it to enable the monitor to receive TCP packets.
This setting does not apply to the CA Multi-Port Monitor.
Specifies whether to enable the NAM monitor feed to receive metric digest files from Cisco NAM. If you select this option, be sure to select the Disable Packet Monitoring option.
After you enable the NAM monitor feed, you cannot disable it. If necessary, delete the monitor and then add it to disable NAM monitoring. By default, this option is disabled.
Displays the version number of the monitoring device. Also displays an informational message if the version of the monitoring device is incompatible with this version of the management console.
Manage each monitor feed, including:
to specify the domain for untagged traffic on the monitor feed.
If you are not using domains to separate duplicate IP traffic, this is not applicable.
To pair a secondary monitor feed, click
and then click the Secondary. Avoid data duplication by only assigning a secondary monitor feed that sees the same traffic that the monitor feed sees,
