• What does "No Change" mean? If you bulk edit more than one application, the "No Change" option preserves the existing value for the setting on each application.
• How do I configure a standard application to monitor the following ports: 137-142, 150, and 200? Create three separate applications and then, use the CA Performance Center to group the applications together for reporting. A standard application monitors TCP packets within a single range of IP addresses.
• How does the management console monitor multi-tier applications? The management console measures application performance from all users to all servers. If a server requests data from another server to complete its transactions, such as a multi-tier application, the management console can also measure those transactions and report on them. This allows you to isolate tier-to-tier issues.

Application Name

Specify a name for the Standard application based on the application naming conventions.

Make this a Priority Application

Choose this option to specify that you do not want the management console to groom or filter the application.

Beginning Port

Beginning TCP port number for the port range.

Ending Port

Ending TCP port number for the port range.

Port Side

Choose an option to specify how the Standard application responds to client requests:

Application listens on these ports.

Choose this option when the server listens for client requests within the specified port range. This is the default.

Application talks to these ports.

Choose this option when the server responds to client requests within the specified port range on the client.

Incident Response

Choose an application incident response to specify how the management console responds to a network incident or server incident that affects the application.

Availability Monitoring

Choose an option to enable or disable availability monitoring on the application. If the management console cannot passively observe the availability of the application, the management console actively checks its availability.

Additional information about the application; for example, type the name of the contacts who are responsible for applications and troubleshooting.
