Data Monitoring - Import Networks from a Router
Import a list of client subnetwork definitions from a router by performing a SNMP query.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why are there no routers in the list? You must add the router to the management console as a network device before you can query the device for network information.
- How do I find the networks at a remote site? The goal is to import the directly connected networks that have a route cost of zero. You might want to poll a single router at a remote site and retrieve all networks with LAN type costs (for example, less than 5 or 10 or 18) instead of polling 6 to 7 routers at the one site. Using Max Cost limits the networks retrieved to only LOCAL networks so you can associate them to the particular remote site.
- What do I need to do after I import networks from a router? The router import does not assign a network type, so you will need to do this manually. Also, review the list of imported networks and if necessary, give them more meaningful names.
Property Details
Complete the following fields:
- Router Device
-
Specifies the router you want the management console to SNMP poll. If the router is not in the list, add a network device for the router.
- ADA Device
-
Specifies the monitor you want to SNMP poll the router.
- Subnet Mask
-
Specify a subnet mask range of /30 to /31 to ignore interface subnets; an interface will never be a client to an application so ignore those subnets.
- Max Cost (ipRouteMetric1)
-
Specify a Max Cost of 0 to limit the networks that are retrieved to only local networks so you can associate them to a particular remote site.
