Rank the Backlog Items

The default Backlog page displays the entire backlog for a product, sorting the backlog items from highest importance to lowest.

When you have multiple user stories and issues in the backlog list, you can reorder them by priority. You can also rank the PBIs by editing the order number inline or by dragging and dropping them within the list. If you do not see a ranking number in the Rank # column, click Enable Ranking.

To use drag-and-drop:

Follow these steps:

  1. From the Backlog page, select a user story from the list.

The story is highlighted and a message confirms that you have selected the row.

  2. Drag-and-drop the backlog item to the appropriate rank position, on top of the item in that existing position.

The new ranking is automatically saved.

To use inline editing:

Follow these steps:

  1. From the Backlog page, click the Rank # field for a user story or issue.
  2. Type the new rank number.
  3. Press Enter to finish editing.

The backlog item is moved to the place in the list.

  4. Repeat these steps for each user story or issue that needs a new ranking number.
