This option controls the way in which the Agent for Open Files detects whether a file is in a safe state to allow the client access for backing up. Selecting it causes the Agent for Open Files to wait for the Write Inactivity Period. If no write activity occurs during this period, the Agent for Open Files considers the file to be in a safe state for backing up. If write activity does occur, the Agent for Open Files starts measuring the inactivity period all over again, but gives up trying if the File/Group Sync Timeout is exceeded.
Another method of determining when it is safe for a client to access an open file is the Auto Sense method. Only NetWare users can choose between using the Auto Sense method and the Write Inactivity method.
