Write Inactivity Period Field

This setting is used by the Agent for Open Files to determine when a file is in a safe state to be backed up by a client. The agent requires that at least this number of seconds passes without any write activity to the file before allowing a client's open request to be honored.

In the case of a group, the agent applies the Write Inactivity Period to each file before allowing the group to be opened.

The agent continues trying to establish an inactivity period of the required duration until the File/Group Sync Timeout is exceeded.

To restore the default Write Inactivity Period:

• Repeatedly click the up or down arrow buttons until the setting turns blue. This is the default value.
• Double-click the setting.
• Press Ctrl+D.

Another method of determining when it is safe for a client to access an open file is the Auto Sense method. Only NetWare users can choose between using the Auto Sense method and the Write Inactivity method.
