Auto Discovery

The Auto Discovery function of the BFC automatically discovers servers as they are powered on their backbone network. Once discovery is complete by the BFC, the server appears on the BFC Servers page in an offline state.

Auto Discovery Process

The following is a description of how the Auto Discovery process works:

  1. User connects the server to the backbone and external networks.
  2. User needs to configure the BIOS of the server as stated in Installing on an Existing CentOS 5.5 System.
  3. User chooses the appropriate discovery mode. See Configuring Discovery Options.
  4. User starts the server.
  5. The server is discovered by the BFC and the new server appears on the BFC Servers page in an offline state until it is requested by a grid.
