ADD Control Statement

The ADD control statement indicates an available volume serial number is assigned to a physical tape volume. ADD followed by one volume serial number marks that volume as physically existing in the tape library. ADD followed by two volume serial numbers marks a range of volumes as physically existing in the tape library.

All volumes for TMC records updated with the ADD control statement are immediately available as scratch tapes. The tape is made active and the scratch bit is turned on. The format for the ADD control statement is:

ADD vvvvvv[-vvvvvv]

Control Statement Definition

ADD

Is the control statement identifier, delimited by a space and may start in any position.

vvvvvv

Is the volume serial number to be activated. If two volume serial numbers separated by a dash (or any other delimiter, such as a comma) are specified, all TMC records with VOLSERs in this inclusive range are activated. Tapes not in inactive status in this range are listed as errors on the output.
