The DELETE control statement indicates a physical tape volume does not exist although there is a TMC entry for that volume serial number. DELETE followed by the volume serial number specifies that volume as nonexistent in the tape library. DELETE followed by two volume serial numbers specifies a range of volumes as nonexistent in the tape library. A volume must be in scratch status before it can be deactivated. The format for the DELETE control statement is:
DELETE vvvvvv[-vvvvvv]
Control Statement Definition
Is the control statement identifier delimited by at least 1 space and may start anywhere within the first 20 positions.
Is the volume serial number to be deactivated. If two volume serial numbers separated by a dash (-) or any other delimiter such as a comma are specified, all TMC records in scratch status with VOLSERs in this inclusive range are marked inactive. Tapes not in scratch status in this range are listed as errors on the output. Tapes already in an inactive (DELETE) status are not processed.
