TMSDELET Utility—Activate, Deactivate TMC Volume Records

Use the TMSDELET utility to do the following:

If a physical tape volume does not exist, the TMC entry for that volume can be placed in inactive status. When a volume is marked inactive, the TMC volume entry still exists but that volume does not appear on the Scratch and Clean List, Volume Serial List, and so forth. A record in inactive status will have the X'02' bit on in FLAG1.

When new tapes arrive, the tape Volume records can be activated and marked available for use in the TMC. To activate a volume or volume range to the TMC using TMSDELET, the volume entries must already exist in the TMC. TMSFORMT is used for the initial entry of the Volume record into the TMC. It is possible to activate new tapes using the TMSTPNIT initialization utility, which is discussed on TMSTPNIT.

To determine what volume serial numbers are available to be assigned to the new cartridges or reels, generate a list of inactive volume serial numbers by using the LIST control statement. As these numbers are assigned, the TMC volume entries must be activated to make the cartridges or reels immediately available for use. The TMSCOPY backup utility should be executed before activating or deactivating a large number of records.

Individual records can also be activated or deactivated using the CA 1 online facilities (CA 1 ISPF or TIQ Online Inquiry/Update). A discussion of the online facilities is provided in the Administration Guide.

CA 1 must be active or batch active to run TMSDELET.
