A CA Workload Automation AE instance is a licensed version of CA Workload Automation AE software running as a server with one or more clients or agents. Clients and agents can run on a single computer or on multiple computers. An instance uses its own scheduler, application server, and event server and operates independently of other instances.
The three-character uppercase alphanumeric instance ID in the Instance field on the Instance - CA Workload Automation AE Administrator window identifies a CA Workload Automation AE server installation on a particular computer. The default instance ID is ACE. However, you can specify a different ID only during installation. Multiple instances can run on the same computer, but they must have different instance IDs. The instance ID is referenced by the %AUTOSERV% environment variable.
An instance is defined by the following:
Events are associated with a specific instance. They have a unique ID, named an eoid, which is prefixed to the three-letter instance ID specified in the %AUTOSERV% variable. This naming convention helps ensure an event's uniqueness and traceability across multiple instances.
You can have multiple instances. You can also configure CA Workload Automation AE to run with cross-instance job dependencies.
Note: You must set the instance ID during installation and it cannot be changed. For more information about CA Workload Automation AE installation, components, multiple instances, and cross-instance job dependencies, see the Windows Implementation Guide.
