EDIT Command

[Authorization: TAPELIBR]

Use the EDIT command to change fields in volume and data set records in the TMC.

The Administration Guide contains a TMC reference that lists the standard CA VM:Tape-defined TMC fields you can edit. You can also edit fields defined by your site in EDITDEF configuration file records.

Note: When you use the EDIT command to change the scratch status of a tape, the new status will not be reflected in the picklist until you run the CA VM:Tape REFRESH POINTER command.

The EDIT command operates in two modes: interactive and non-interactive. Interactive mode prompts you through tasks. Non-interactive mode lets you edit TMC fields without being prompted. If you issue edits using the CP SMSG command, you must use non-interactive mode.

Note: For more information about syntax and noninteractive editing, see Noninteractive Editing.

The EDIT command should be used only by experienced individuals to correct known errors in certain key TMC fields. If you need to change expiration dates, volume sequence information, or data set names, use the CATALOG command. The CATALOG command, unlike the EDIT command, verifies information you enter and, if the affected tape is part of a multivolume sequence, propagates changes across the volumes and data sets in that sequence.

Note: For more information about how CA VM:Tape verifies your authority to work with specific tapes, see Authorizing Tape Usage.
