Encrypting Data

To specify data encryption for a backup job, the CA VM:Backup system administrator must provide a security key in the exception file associated with the backup job template file.

Each encryption algorithm has unique security key requirements. You can use the same security key to encrypt multiple backup jobs. To determine how to specify the security key in the exception file, see the backup job exception file OPTIONS record in the OPTIONS Record or "Specifying Special Processing Options" in the chapter "Managing Exception and Exclusion Files" in the Security Algorithm and Key.

The exception file is the only place where the security key is recorded. If the security key is changed after the backup has run, you must record the original key so that the data can be decrypted and restored.
