Configure a Nested Realm

You can configure realms within other realms. Administrators with the Manage Domain Objects privilege may create nested realms under existing realms for policy domains within their scope.

Note: You can only create nested realms under realms protected by SiteMinder Web Agents.

Note: When you create or modify a Policy Server object in the Policy Server User Interface, use ASCII characters. Object creation or modification with non-ASCII characters is not supported.

To configure a Realm on a SiteMinder Web Agent

  1. Log into the Policy Server User Interface.
  2. If you have the Manage System and Domain Objects privilege:
    1. In the Object pane, click on the Domains tab.
    2. Expand the policy domain to which you want to add a realm by clicking on the + symbol to the left of the policy domain icon.
  3. If you have the Manage Domain Objects privilege:

In the Object pane, expand the policy domain to which you want to add a realm by clicking on the + symbol to the left of the policy domain icon.

  4. In the expanded policy domain, expand the realm icon by clicking on the + symbol to the left of the realm.
  5. Right click on the realm under which you want to add a nested (child) realm.
  6. From the pop-up menu, select Create Realm under Realm.

    The SiteMinder Realm dialog opens.

  7. Configure the nested realm with the following considerations:

Note: Asterisk (*) and question mark (?) characters are treated as literal characters in resource filters (not wildcards).

  8. Click Apply to save the realm or click OK to save the realm and return to the SiteMinder Administration window.

When you look at nested realms in the SiteMinder Administration window, the Resource column displays the resource filters for parent realms. Green text indicates a resource filter inherited from parent realms.
