Configure a Realm for a 4.x Affiliate Agent

Note: This section describes 4.x Affiliate Agents, which are not related to the affiliate objects described in Affiliates chapter of this guide. The Affiliates chapter describes the SAML Affiliate Agent, which is the Agent for SiteMinder’s Federation Security Services.

Although SiteMinder does not “protect” resources on an affiliate’s Web site, a realm must be defined so that you can configure responses to pass information to an Affiliate Web Agent.

Realms for SiteMinder Affiliate Agents require far less configuration than SiteMinder Web Agents. Consequently, the procedure for configuring a realm that uses an Affiliate Agent is relatively simple.

Note: Affiliate Agents must be installed on servers at affiliate sites to receive user information from a SiteMinder protected site.

Note: When you create or modify a Policy Server object in the Policy Server User Interface, use ASCII characters. Object creation or modification with non-ASCII characters is not supported.

To configure a realm on an Affiliate Agent

  1. Create a realm object in the Policy Server User Interface using the Realm Dialog.
  2. In the Realm Dialog, provide a Name and (optional) Description for the realm object.
  3. Configure resource properties in the Resource tab.

The Resource tab of the SiteMinder Realm dialog allows you to specify an Agent, resource filter, authentication scheme, and default protection for the realm.

Enter an Affiliate Agent name or an Agent group name in the Agent field, or use the Lookup button to choose from a list of existing Agents and Agent Groups:

Note: You specify the resources protected by a realm for an Affiliate Agent when you configure the Affiliate Agent on the Web Server. For more information, see the SiteMinder Web Agent Guide.

  4. Click Apply to save the realm or click OK to save the realm and return to the SiteMinder Administration window.
