Configure Agent Identities for Non-Web Agents

All SiteMinder Agents require an Agent identity. The Agent identity establishes a mapping between the name and the IP address of each Web, RADIUS, or application server instance hosting an Agent. The Policy Server uses the Agent identity to associate policies with the correct Agent.

You configure an Agent identity at the Policy Server by creating an Agent object in the Policy Server User Interface. In the Agent object, you assign a name to the Agent and define its agent type—Web Agent, EJB Agent, Servlet Agent, RADIUS Agent, Custom Agent.

Note: When you create or modify a Policy Server object in the Policy Server User Interface, use ASCII characters. Object creation or modification with non-ASCII characters is not supported.

Note: An Affiliate Agent is one of the Agent types for an Agent object—this Agent type applies only to 4.x Affiliate Agents. Do not use this option to configure SAML Affiliate Agents.

To configure an Agent object

  1. Log into the Policy Server User Interface.
  2. From the SiteMinder Administration menu bar, select Edit, System Configuration, Create Agent.

    The Agent Properties dialog opens.

  3. In the Name field, enter the name of the new Agent. This name is case-insensitive. You cannot create an Agent named MyAgent and a different agent named myagent.

Agent names must be 7-bit ASCII characters, in the range 32-127.

  4. Optionally, in the Description field, enter a brief description of the Agent.
  5. If applicable, select the Support 4.x agents check box.

A further set of controls specific to 4.x agent types appears in the lower part of the dialog.

  6. In the Agent Type group box, select the SiteMinder radio button, unless you are configuring a RADIUS Agent.

The contents of the SiteMinder Agent Dialog change to support the agent type you have chosen.

  7. Complete any remaining fields based on the appropriate instructions:
